March 10 deal includes a $25 gift card when you purchase a Nintendo Switch

Mario Day, also known as MAR10 Day or March 10th, is coming soon. It’s a day to celebrate Nintendo’s iconic plumber. It wasn’t his birthday or anything, but a random day on the calendar that somehow looked like his name when spelled out. You know, like May 4th is Star Wars Day.

Nonetheless, Nintendo has been heavily supporting the celebration since 2015, offering Mario-themed experiences, game discounts, and various contests on the company’s official store. In recent years, retailers have followed suit and cut prices on Nintendo products on March 10. With that in mind, here are the best deals for March 10 that are likely to elicit an “ooh” or two.

One of the big-name deals is for the Switch itself. There’s no actual discount on the console, but each purchase does include a $25 gift card from the retailer where you purchased the console. Participating retailers include Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop and Target, with the sale running from March 10th to March 16th. This offer is available on the OLED Switch, Nintendo’s latest and greatest console iteration, the original Switch, and the Switch Lite.It’s the perfect way to jump on the trend Metroid Fear, Super Mario Miracle And of course, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

There is an important caveat here. With the Switch being discontinued and a replacement likely to launch early next year, we don’t know how long Nintendo plans to support the original hybrid console after that. Still, the Switch has a vast back catalog worth exploring.

Speaking of back catalogs, many retailers are offering $20 discounts on many first-party Nintendo games.These include Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Edition, Mario Party Superstar, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and more. This brings the price down to $40 per game.There’s also a cool bundle that includes a tropical-themed Switch Lite and a digital copy Animal Crossing: New Horizons Priced at $200, available at Target and Walmart. This isn’t part of the MAR10 celebrations, but it’s still a great deal.

The company has also doubled the free trial period for Nintendo Switch Online from seven days to 14 days. As the name suggests, this allows people to play games online, while also opening up a catalog of retro NES and SNES games. Switch owners have until March 17 to launch the trial, which will be available even to those who have tried the service before.

Finally, there are some real-world events for die-hard Nintendo fans.New York City’s Nintendo Store will host meet-and-greets with Mario and Luigi, plus tons of giveaways and screenings Super Mario Bros. movie. GameStop will also be hosting a live giveaway on March 16th.
